How has your career developed since graduating?

I started on the grad scheme at L’Oreal, learning about different commercial functions and how retailers use data. I have now progressed into my current role at SSP, specialising in analysing data to identify growth opportunities.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your current role?

Being able to present to the CEO on a weekly basis and being the “go to” person for data in the commercial team.

What is your greatest achievement since graduating?

Successfully pitching for a half a million pounds worth of investment to enhance the company’s digital equipment. I did this by analysing data from a small trial and proving investment would have a commercial benefit to the wider business.

What advice would you offer to current students interested in working in your field?

Get involved in as much as you can at uni – join teams/societies, go for committee roles, choose a variety of modules and try to gain as much experience as possible. Practical skills, especially using Excel, are really important as well!

What do you think are the most important things you learnt as part of your course?

I honestly don’t think I would have had the opportunities I’ve had so far if I’d studied anywhere else. The academic side of things was really important (having a good result on your CV definitely helps!) but it also taught me so much about problem solving, thinking outside the box and the importance of working as a team.

What is your favourite memory from studying in ECO?

Winning the essay competition and going to Dublin for the undergraduate awards.

Sum up ECO in one sentence!

An exciting, welcoming, fun place to learn with lecturers that really care!
